04:32.05 jano bork!
04:32.06 jano :D
04:32.21 jano talk to me about film!
04:32.36 jano I shot my first roll of film since high school, what am I supposed to do with it now?
04:56.48 learner heh
04:56.52 learner you serious? :)
04:56.58 learner get it developed :P
04:57.34 learner take it to a photo studio somewhere that develops film
04:58.19 learner avoid the pharmacies, walmarts, costco's, and supermarket development places unless you have no alternative or are in a rush
05:03.34 learner ritz is one of the best "big chain" developers, often found in malls -- it's a total crap-shoot for the mom n' pop shops.
05:04.25 learner If they sell professional film (i.e. they have a refridgerator with "the good stuff" in it), you can rarely every go wrong -- but you'll be paying triple
05:04.45 learner ritz is about double the "rest", but usually well worth it if the roll has any value
05:05.51 learner I've yet to find a good place for digitals from negatives (photocd's suck ass, as you probably noticed from mine) -- at least a shop you don't have to send your film to
05:08.26 jano hmm
05:08.29 jano thanks :)
05:08.47 jano there's another format of film->digital, not photocd
05:08.51 jano picturecd?
05:09.01 jano there's picture cd and photocd.. one is good, other is bad
05:09.06 jano i think
05:09.23 jano i looked at film scanners earlier, they're not as good as I was hoping
05:09.29 jano scanning film has it's problems :(
05:09.40 jano unless you go expense
05:12.23 learner both are just jpeg's on cd .. which are super sub optimal to what a scanner can give you
05:12.49 learner yeah, I used to love jhu's forray of scanners.. used them all the time
05:12.56 learner 10K nikon negative scanners
05:13.52 learner i found the negative scanner at work finally just a couple weeks ago
05:14.04 learner buried under a load of crap layed the gem
05:14.29 learner old scsi interface .. had to really hunt for cables
05:14.48 learner now i need to find a machine that can drive it
05:15.33 learner i'm either going to have to load up a fresh windows box and install drivers or plug and pray for support in linux
05:15.58 learner my new raid upgrade is up and running! =) ..
05:16.01 learner sweet performance
05:16.04 learner best on this box yet
05:16.19 learner 53MB/s sustained writes from /dev/zero
05:16.48 learner previous best was my new seagate.. came in at almost 40MB/s
05:17.19 learner makes my older drives that only do 20-something seem slowly silly now
05:18.03 learner I'll be able to sync the entire drive of the new server to the raid array now
