I used clone to generate a spiral screw
structure from thin rpp's which I grouped together. I can convert
this to stl just fine using 0.001 absolute tessellation but when I
add a cylindrical solid axis in the middle and create a region by
doing union on the group and the axis, g-stl.exe exits with
"Dangling faces detected in rA after boolean" ... I tried to google
this error without getting much wiser. any advice? |
08:56.17 |
elpea |
there are 1440 said thin rpp solids total,
plus the axis rcc |
08:58.18 |
elpea |
I tried to elongate the axis so that its
dimensions went beyond the spiral structure in both ends on Z axis,
but this didn't help |
09:00.46 |
elpea |
the rpp's dimensions are 50 0.5 0.5, and the
spiral structure is made with 720 clones with 0.5 rotation and 0.1
elevation (Z) increments |
09:02.20 |
elpea |
with no translation on other axes besides Z
(so everything stacks at 0 0 0, and of course there is a lot of
overlap between the solids) |
09:04.04 |
elpea |
the axis has a radius of 5 and resides in the
middle (0 0 0) |

on another topic: is there a way to select
the parameters to edit directly from CLI? I find it a bit tedious
to pick e.g. an edge to edit using the GUI... I know you can do
this with keyboard, but it's still clunky. |

another feature request(?): it would be nice
if the CLI colorscheme was configurable, or at least invertable. I
often work at night so I really need a dark background. |

since I already started bombarding with
questions; how is the multicore support in BRL-CAD/MGED? I'm
looking to upgrade my rig at some point and have been considering
Xeons to replace my i7. |

ok... "solved". for reasons unknown to me,
the conversion succeeds if I group the rpp's comprising the spiral
structure with the axis, instead of regioning the spiral and the
axis together separately. |

however... I need to subtract an rcc from the
axis to create a hole in it, so I still have the same
problem. |

I eventually got around the error by grouping
the spiral parts with the axis' body cylinder, creating a
combination where I subtracted the axis hole cylinder from that
group, and converting the combination to stl. |

tighter tolerance or tessellating in steps (spiral first to a bot,
