So um... who's heading over to Libera after
the whole disaster with Freenode? |
03:37.57 |
Sean[m] |
I registered the room, but haven't made any
plans to exodus just yet. |
03:37.59 |
teepee |
everyone |
03:38.15 |
Sean[m] |
But yeah, it's looking pretty sad. |
03:38.34 |
TheJollyRoger |
Got it. Yeah, I'll see you over there
then. |
03:38.36 |
teepee |
actually not sad enough in my view |
03:38.53 |
teepee |
look at matrix then :) |
03:39.07 |
teepee |
for brlcad that is |
03:39.14 |
Sean[m] |
Yeah, matrix is looking sweet.. that's what
I'm attached to from now. |
03:39.15 |
TheJollyRoger |
I'm already (metaphorically) packing my bags
to leave Freenode. |
03:39.51 |
TheJollyRoger |
Even though this place is 1's and 0's on a
hard drive in a server in some colo center somewhere, I'm feeling a
tad bit sad. |
03:39.53 |
TheJollyRoger |
I made friends here. |
03:40.00 |
TheJollyRoger |
I learned a lot here. |
03:40.23 |
teepee |
you'll still have those, that's the point of
matrix and libera.chat |
03:41.11 |
TheJollyRoger |
Yessir! It'll be good to know that unlike a
real move, where I can't take my friends with me, on a digital
move, I can take my friends with me. |
03:42.11 |
teepee |
yep, and we can leave the people who did the
take-over behind |
03:42.59 |
teepee |
it's amazing how lots of projects and people
moved over just today just to keep on the side of freedom |
03:43.31 |
teepee |
I wonder how that would work with discord or
slack, I suppose it just does not |
03:44.05 |
teepee |
matrix is partially concerning when hosting
everything on matrix.org, but at least it allows the federation if
needed/wanted |
03:44.19 |
TheJollyRoger |
Yeah. |
03:45.12 |
Sean[m] |
was trying to get ahold of christel to get her
perspective on all this, but she's pretty much
disappeared |
03:47.04 |
teepee |
considering she was employee of PIA there's
probably not much to get sadly |
03:47.17 |
teepee |
but it would be an interesting part of the
story for sure |
03:50.58 |
Sean[m] |
As I coarsely understand it, he laid out some
pretty serious claims against some of the staffers. They don't
exonerate even if they are true, but they'd certainly paint things
in a different light. Could also be complete BS, and that's
seeming more and more likely given the logs and
backstory. |
03:52.34 |
teepee |
yep, I don't claim to know what's going on but
did read a couple of the logs and some of those letters |
03:52.55 |
teepee |
after that the latest post on freenode blog
seems fishy |
03:53.53 |
teepee |
we might never know, but I don't see this
going back |

Until I can move wholly off of freenode, I
will at least try and limit my activity on the network. Iâll be
over on Libera.Chat if you need me. :) |
