Google Code-in's fun , right ??
Yeah! Although I seriously wish it wasn't held during such a busy season.
Yea, true that but probably its because of the age-factor
Summer of Code sounds so much more enticing than "Google-code-while-you-have-100-papers-due"
part age factor and part because there's a different huge program in the summer for college aged kids
the rest of the year is getting ready for the next program
(and it does take all that time
Yeah, how is Summer of Code anyways?
I like GCI more
you guys are more fun, better at solving problems independently (sometimes)
Yay :D You know you picked the right organization when the mentor actually likes the kids
by the way , i can reclaim a task i abandoned , right ?
Yup, unless it exceeds the maximum number of completions
which is the total of times it has been finished by all students
I feel like some organizations (I'm looking at you, Apertium) just hate their kids.
They're the kind of people to put
"Extract valid examples for anaphora resolution from aligned parallel corpus."
as a beginner task
hehe
they're just lost in their domain's terminology
haven't learned how to say things in simpler terms
I have so much respect for the students under them
like how we say "make a box" instead of "make a Right Rectangular Parallelepiped"
instead of "aligned parallel corpus", they should probably say "a set of special words"
If a student doesn't what a Right Rectangular Parallelpiped is then I don't even know why they're working in open source. Clearly these are common terms.
I think "Extract valid examples for anaphora resolution from aligned parallel corpus" is "search for phrases within prepared text documents"
but would have to read the task description
I feel like half of what they want to say could be simplified to "parse"
It's funny how a linguistic organization is the worst at communicating their tasks
Hey everyone
Which country do you all recide in?
I live in Gurgaon, India
I am in Ahmedabad, India
i am fron Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India too
Hey rahil howz your competition going so far?
Very Good ! BRLCAD is too much fun (#addicted)
what about you ? Do you plan on winning the Grand Prize ?
I am trying...
Nah, man. You are going to make it ! . You are very talented
how do you know?
I heard too much about you from every other contestant
Same about Jeff Sieu , even he is great and both of you are sooo helpful
oh...Thanks.
Ya, totally welcome :)
@Sean i the configured cmake again
@Sean downloaded from this source https://cmake.org/download/
Screenshot-from-2018-01-08-08-29-08.png
also why does the bin directory not contain mged or archer
?
You may not have installed the X11 libraries I think
try this
sudo apt-get install libx11-dev
CMake is not BRL-CAD
You will not find Archer in the bin because they are different products
You have to build the top-level cmakelist file using cmake (which I'm sure you've done before).
@Jeff Sieu it's already installed
What does your CMake output after you did cmake ..
Screenshot-from-2018-01-08-09-17-51.png
You have to run cmake on the cmakelist inside the brl-cad svn trunk
Screenshot-from-2018-01-08-09-21-53.png
Wait why is your brlcad svn trunk inside your cmake folder
Okay, 1. I'm displeased that you have brlcad inside the cmake directory. 2. You have to create a build folder, make it the current directory, then set cmake to its path (in case of parent directory you would use "cmake ..")
It seems he ran svn inside it

Then I'm sorry too
mv brlcad-svn-trunk /home/defengartner01/Downloads/brlcad-svn-trunk cd /home/defengartner01/Downloads/brlcad-svn-trunk mkdir build cd build cmake .. make
Has anyone here compiled it using the new Ubuntu release? Could it be that the build is broken on it as well?
Screenshot-from-2018-01-08-09-34-51.png
is this fine ?
I just arrived and saw 238 new messages :)
had a lot of Fun !
I guess every participant had fun
yup
isn't it cool ? that BRLCAD has task of compiling and whoever fails they take the log and try to resolve issues and make themselves better .
it is really amazing
Hello
hiii
hi
How can i draw an object in an existing .g file
Click Geometry Browser in Edit Menu
Then double click the objects you see on the Geometry Browser panel
Or, you can simply do
ls
to list all the objects
Go to Create and click an object if you want to create a new one
Then
draw <object>
really digging sourceforge's new look!
Not perfect, But much better than before!
Definitely.
Hey @Akshit Goel Please ask your questions under the right topics
Hello ZULIP, This is SATISH SINGH from India, I've registered myself for GCI 2018. Here this current Task 'Getting Familiar with BRL-CAD community' is really interesting to learn a lot.
Hmm... Welcome! :)
thanks you Naseef Sir.
@SATISH SINGH I appreciate your respect, but please know that it's VERY unusual to refer to people as sir when working in open source
You're being modest here.
no, It's just plagiarism.
@Sean said :
yup sir....this task was already approved yesterday.
I appreciate your respect, but please know that it's VERY unusual to refer to people as sir when working in open source
:) as you say so.
HEY , @SATISH SINGH
BTW It's GCI 2017, 2018 not started yet
Greetings Rahil Sir.
*facepalm
Right :)
oh yeah, can I edit my post ?
Within 10 minutes from posting.
yes you can.
Greetings Rahil Sir.
 , even i am a student like you
He thought we are mentors? I'm a student too! LOL
He thought we are mentors? I'm a student too! LOL
most probably , lol
yes, i thought you're Mentor... so how many task you've completed so far?
.
Google did not decided to hide the number of tasks completed by a student without a reason right? They even sorted the leader board alphabetically for the same reason.
We're almost at the end of GCI, When others see higher number of completed tasks by a student, They start to rush towards completing more tasks, Which leads to low quality tasks.
Totally !

Feel like I've seen someone say this here before...
Plagiarism again.
But still, It was from my memory, I don't even remember who said it
That being said, I don't think 1 day can change much when it comes to rushing tasks
Ha ha, Yeah!
so, Where can I look for that Leader board and their number of tasks?
You can look at the leader board on the organization's GCI page, You can see total number of tasks completed for an organizations but not how many tasks a student done.
here is brlcad leaderboard : https://codein.withgoogle.com/organizations/brl-cad/
Hey, welcome to BRLCAD :)
Does someone know how many times has BRL-CAD been downloaded? I've seen that there were almost 900,000 downloads only on SourceForge since 2010
in that count , i have downloaded 4 times :)
It's hard to track, There are other mirrors, Linux repositories, Etc.
You would probably need Sean to give an estimation
Hey , anybody there ? , here its 1:40 at night :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
I'm here and it's 1:44 for me. LOL!
waited for the clock to be exactly 1:44
:rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:
so you are from india too
which state ?
How can you decide that I am from India just with my local time? India isn't the only country with UTC+05:30.
I'm from Sri Lanka and our time is UTC+05:30 too.
Hmm.. Looks like Sri Lanka was once more than a hour away from Indian Standard Time at UTC +6:30

Hahaah @Naseef
I'm not native, I don't how it sounds (angry or funny) :P
Sri Lanka came closer to India
