Google Code-in's fun , right ??

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:22):

Yeah! Although I seriously wish it wasn't held during such a busy season.

view this post on Zulip Rahil Malik (Jan 07 2018 at 19:23):

Yea, true that but probably its because of the age-factor

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:25):

Summer of Code sounds so much more enticing than "Google-code-while-you-have-100-papers-due"

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:26):

part age factor and part because there's a different huge program in the summer for college aged kids

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:26):

the rest of the year is getting ready for the next program

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:26):

(and it does take all that time

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:27):

Yeah, how is Summer of Code anyways?

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:27):

I like GCI more

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:27):

you guys are more fun, better at solving problems independently (sometimes)

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:28):

Yay :D You know you picked the right organization when the mentor actually likes the kids

view this post on Zulip Rahil Malik (Jan 07 2018 at 19:28):

by the way , i can reclaim a task i abandoned , right ?

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:29):

Yup, unless it exceeds the maximum number of completions

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:30):

which is the total of times it has been finished by all students

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:31):

I feel like some organizations (I'm looking at you, Apertium) just hate their kids.

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:34):

They're the kind of people to put

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:34):

"Extract valid examples for anaphora resolution from aligned parallel corpus."

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:35):

as a beginner task

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:35):

hehe

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:35):

they're just lost in their domain's terminology

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:35):

haven't learned how to say things in simpler terms

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:37):

I have so much respect for the students under them

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:37):

like how we say "make a box" instead of "make a Right Rectangular Parallelepiped"

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:38):

instead of "aligned parallel corpus", they should probably say "a set of special words"

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:39):

If a student doesn't what a Right Rectangular Parallelpiped is then I don't even know why they're working in open source. Clearly these are common terms.

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:42):

I think "Extract valid examples for anaphora resolution from aligned parallel corpus" is "search for phrases within prepared text documents"

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:42):

but would have to read the task description

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:43):

I feel like half of what they want to say could be simplified to "parse"

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:43):

It's funny how a linguistic organization is the worst at communicating their tasks

view this post on Zulip Siddharth (Jan 08 2018 at 07:26):

view this post on Zulip Mitesh (Jan 08 2018 at 12:57):

view this post on Zulip Mitesh (Jan 08 2018 at 12:58):

view this post on Zulip Jeff Sieu (Jan 08 2018 at 13:36):

You may not have installed the X11 libraries I think

view this post on Zulip Jeff Sieu (Jan 08 2018 at 13:37):

try this
sudo apt-get install libx11-dev

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 08 2018 at 13:40):

CMake is not BRL-CAD

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 08 2018 at 13:40):

You will not find Archer in the bin because they are different products

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 08 2018 at 13:42):

You have to build the top-level cmakelist file using cmake (which I'm sure you've done before).

view this post on Zulip vasugarg (Jan 08 2018 at 13:56):

@Jeff Sieu it's already installed

view this post on Zulip Jeff Sieu (Jan 08 2018 at 14:02):

What does your CMake output after you did cmake ..

Wait why is your brlcad svn trunk inside your cmake folder

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 08 2018 at 14:24):

Okay, 1. I'm displeased that you have brlcad inside the cmake directory. 2. You have to create a build folder, make it the current directory, then set cmake to its path (in case of parent directory you would use "cmake ..")

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 08 2018 at 14:26):

It seems he ran svn inside it

view this post on Zulip Agape Gonzales (Jan 10 2018 at 14:07):

Click Geometry Browser in Edit Menu

Then double click the objects you see on the Geometry Browser panel

view this post on Zulip Jeff Sieu (Jan 10 2018 at 14:09):

Or, you can simply do

ls

to list all the objects

view this post on Zulip Agape Gonzales (Jan 10 2018 at 14:09):

Go to Create and click an object if you want to create a new one

Hello ZULIP, This is SATISH SINGH from India, I've registered myself for GCI 2018. Here this current Task 'Getting Familiar with BRL-CAD community' is really interesting to learn a lot.

view this post on Zulip Naseef (Jan 14 2018 at 10:11):

Hmm... Welcome! :)

view this post on Zulip SATISH SINGH (Jan 14 2018 at 10:14):

thanks you Naseef Sir.

view this post on Zulip Naseef (Jan 14 2018 at 10:17):

@SATISH SINGH I appreciate your respect, but please know that it's VERY unusual to refer to people as sir when working in open source

view this post on Zulip SATISH SINGH (Jan 14 2018 at 10:20):

You're being modest here.

view this post on Zulip Naseef (Jan 14 2018 at 10:21):

no, It's just plagiarism.

view this post on Zulip Naseef (Jan 14 2018 at 10:22):

most probably , lol

view this post on Zulip SATISH SINGH (Jan 14 2018 at 10:33):

yes, i thought you're Mentor... so how many task you've completed so far?

view this post on Zulip Rahil Malik (Jan 14 2018 at 10:34):

.

view this post on Zulip Naseef (Jan 14 2018 at 10:35):

Google did not decided to hide the number of tasks completed by a student without a reason right? They even sorted the leader board alphabetically for the same reason.

view this post on Zulip Naseef (Jan 14 2018 at 10:38):

We're almost at the end of GCI, When others see higher number of completed tasks by a student, They start to rush towards completing more tasks, Which leads to low quality tasks.

view this post on Zulip Rahil Malik (Jan 14 2018 at 10:42):

Totally !

view this post on Zulip Naseef (Jan 14 2018 at 10:53):

You can look at the leader board on the organization's GCI page, You can see total number of tasks completed for an organizations but not how many tasks a student done.
