Is everyone having fun working on tasks?
Yes! I'm trying the "Write program comparing performance of bn_randmt vs SFMT (vs C++ STL)" task right now.
oh, that's a cool task, very useful
Yes! I'm loving the web design tasks:blush:
Yup, it's been great so far, except now I'm a bit stuck on building rt^3. Had fun making the chess models though. :P
Yeah! Having a lot of fun with BRL-CAD. The task are awesome!
I like these tasks because I love C++. Most other organizations don't have much C++ tasks.
These tasks helping me to learn C++ in a fun way!

@Naseef we're going to be adding quite a few more c/c++ tasks too (as well as more web dev tasks)
That's great!
Hey Mentors could you please add some designing tasks too?
Only design tasks I found were the Facebook banner and image gallery
@Siddharth we'll be adding some web tasks, to fix and improve things on the website
there's considerably more emphasis this year on coding tasks
if there's something specific you'd like to work on design-wise or otherwise, send me an e-mail describing it
email is brlcad@mac.com
or can send to devs@brlcad.org
I love the comments on the top-level cmake file for BRL-CAD.
# Allow the BRLCAD_ROOT environment variable to set CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX
# but be noisy about it. This is generally not a good idea.
...
# While we're at it, complain if BRLCAD_DATA is set
How's everyone's weekend going?
Good, working on some C#
Even i a having fun, but am in bit of a pickle
How are you ?
It's going good
Good for you
Hello @Sean , how are you?
Have any of u done research on the mountain view area. It's simply amazing. I plan on visiting Steve jobs grave and the computer history museum when I win :joy:
Haha, Don't be over-confident, All the best
May the best designer/programmer win
or keep working on BRL-CAD, become a mentor, contribute a couple years, and our organization would likely eventually send you to California as a BRL-CAD delegate, e.g., as a GSoC mentor
it's happened many times for those that contribute consistently throughout the year and on their breaks, fun things are possible
Goodluck @William Cook
I've done some research, Before GCI started, I thought I will be working there after I got a degree. LOL
I'd like to visit the Golden Gate Bridge, I've seen it many times in a few video games.
May the best designer/programmer win
Or maybe both, AFAIK there are two grand prize winners per organization.
Actually, are all the winners always together or is it only when they visit Google?
I still can't get over how cool it is to actually see how CAD software works internally.

there are 5 finalists and 2 grand prize winners per organization
Actually, are all the winners always together or is it only when they visit Google?
there are too many orgs and winners now for everyone to be there at the same time, so now they get split into two big groups that visit separately. the groups mostly stay together, but it is a celebration with a variety of events where you get to know the other winners, one of the mentors, and a variety of events throughout the visit.
What platform do you think our mentors are using ?
AFAIK Sean has a Mac Book.
yeeaa, i remember screenshots
Last day! Gonna miss all of this
Totally, but actually day after tomorrow is the last day to claim task and last day is 17/1/18
I'll complete tasks even after the deadline (coding ones), Mentors won't review it and I won't get any points for doing it, But this is so fun!
All the tasks will be archived (hopefully), So I can read the instructions any time I want. I haven't got to try out tasks from other organizations, I'll check them out too. I learned a lot by doing these tasks, I'll learn even more by doing more tasks!

Who don't like to go there?
AFAIK Sean has a Mac Book.
Sean has a bunch of macbooks, several linux boxes, a freebsd server, a lame windows install, and haiku in a VM ... variety is the spice of life
I have a PC with Windows 10 + Kubuntu 17.10.
Android 4.3, MikeOS, and Windows XP VirtualMachines.
I have a PC running Windows 10 and an iMac pro running high sierra
You have a $5k IMAC? I wonder if my PC worth at least $100 LOL.
Won it at a hackathon, so yeah
that's awesome! where was the hackathon?
I wonder If I could participate to a hackathon and win a 1gb ddr3 ram stick, LOL.
Have you guys tried any kind of virtual reality like Oculus Rift or HTC Vive?
yes, I've looked at and tested a fair bit of vr and avr tech over the years
Is it like watching movies on a 3D TV or like it's talking you to another world? How VR can be used in CAD?
taking*
neither vr or avr are like 3d tv @Naseef .. it's more like you're in another world (at least with vr, not so much with avr)
I don't see much potential right now for vr in CAD for design, but it can be interesting for model exploration or using avr to look at how models might fit into existing spaces
for example, exploring a CAD model of a new museum before it's built, walking down the halls, looking out windows to see the view, etc
I'm a little confused with AVR, Do you mean AR (Augmented Reality)? If not, What it means?
@Naseef yes, avr == ar
