view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:58):

this is the first year we've used it

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:58):

usually we're on IRC

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 19:58):

It's neat, I like it better than IRCs.

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 19:58):

where you can directly see commit messages, when people come and go more clearly

view this post on Zulip William Cook (Jan 07 2018 at 19:58):

I love it

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 20:30):

If there is one feature I dislike about zulip it's how you cannot truly delete a post

view this post on Zulip Rahil Malik (Jan 07 2018 at 20:31):

you can edit it to something else , make it an empty space or use a '.'

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 20:31):

yes, but your edit history will reveal it

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 20:32):

So if you write something embarrassing it'll remain with you till you die.

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 20:33):

what deleted message? :)

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 07 2018 at 20:33):

(admins can delete them for you)

view this post on Zulip Mahdi (Jan 07 2018 at 20:35):

That's... heresy.

view this post on Zulip Siddharth (Jan 08 2018 at 07:28):

It's better than IRC

view this post on Zulip Siddharth (Jan 08 2018 at 07:29):

IRC is not that good for replying to a particular message and sharing media

view this post on Zulip Siddharth (Jan 08 2018 at 07:29):

It's fun using Zulip

view this post on Zulip Siddharth (Jan 08 2018 at 07:30):

@Sean We all could still talk on Zulip after GCI 2017 right?

view this post on Zulip Siddharth (Jan 08 2018 at 07:30):

We are a part of the BRL-CAD family after all

view this post on Zulip Naseef (Jan 08 2018 at 08:00):

an admin can let users delete their messages.

Of course, GCI is for introducing us to open source development. After that, We should work on our own.

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 09 2018 at 05:29):

You should not work on your own... you join the community like you all have done here and keep working on things. Keep contributing. It’s usually more fun and more productive with others.

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 09 2018 at 05:32):

Maybe take on or help with a project. One former GCI student took on server tasks and became one of our most helpful administrators. Another is starting a project now (and looking for help) to implement a game using BRL-CAD. Possibilities are vast. We have a list of things we need people to help with.

view this post on Zulip Siddharth (Jan 09 2018 at 06:00):

Yeah, we should try to give back as much as possible to the Open Source community

view this post on Zulip Siddharth (Jan 09 2018 at 06:01):

If you ain't a pirate (a person who uses cracked software) I'm 99% sure you must've used open source software atleast once in your life

view this post on Zulip Siddharth (Jan 09 2018 at 06:02):

I'll be taking part in Google Summer of Code as well after I'm done with school

view this post on Zulip Naseef (Jan 09 2018 at 06:06):

@Sean by 'On our own', I didn't mean working alone, I meant like, Finding problems our self and fixing them, Implementing new features without a task or instruction, Etc.

view this post on Zulip Siddharth (Jan 09 2018 at 06:09):

@Sean How many people are a part of BRL-CAD excluding the participants?

depends who you count but we have about 2-3 dozen active contributors most years

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 09 2018 at 06:11):

core dev team on the C/C++ code is less than a dozen

view this post on Zulip Naseef (Jan 09 2018 at 06:23):

Can I participate in GSoC before I start my degree courses?

view this post on Zulip Sean (Jan 09 2018 at 06:25):

you have to be enrolled, but classes do not have had to start -- see the FAQ about eligibility

view this post on Zulip Naseef (Jan 09 2018 at 06:27):

Well, I'm eligible to participate in GCI this year (2018)

view this post on Zulip Siddharth (Jan 16 2018 at 18:28):

I love the feature that you could react with any emoji to a message
