what do you guys think of zulip?
this is the first year we've used it
usually we're on IRC
It's neat, I like it better than IRCs.
where you can directly see commit messages, when people come and go more clearly
I love it
If there is one feature I dislike about zulip it's how you cannot truly delete a post
you can edit it to something else , make it an empty space or use a '.'
yes, but your edit history will reveal it
So if you write something embarrassing it'll remain with you till you die.
what deleted message? :)
(admins can delete them for you)
That's... heresy.
It's better than IRC
IRC is not that good for replying to a particular message and sharing media
It's fun using Zulip
@Sean We all could still talk on Zulip after GCI 2017 right?
We are a part of the BRL-CAD family after all
an admin can let users delete their messages.
Zulip is much better than IRC
it has a lot of features.
I really like how you can see fellow users times.

Yeah
with streams, topics, it's pretty neat.
But I like the look of Slack, It looks great IMO
Its first time I have joied any IRC chanal...so I liked the way of disscussion and its something new....I liked Zulip its pretty well managed the way topics are arranged and all.
@Sean We all could still talk on Zulip after GCI 2017 right?
absolutely! we hope that you all do
I just noticed that Zulip was a company participating in the code-in :)

Of course, GCI is for introducing us to open source development. After that, We should work on our own.
You should not work on your own... you join the community like you all have done here and keep working on things. Keep contributing. It’s usually more fun and more productive with others.
Maybe take on or help with a project. One former GCI student took on server tasks and became one of our most helpful administrators. Another is starting a project now (and looking for help) to implement a game using BRL-CAD. Possibilities are vast. We have a list of things we need people to help with.
Yeah, we should try to give back as much as possible to the Open Source community
If you ain't a pirate (a person who uses cracked software) I'm 99% sure you must've used open source software atleast once in your life
I'll be taking part in Google Summer of Code as well after I'm done with school
@Sean by 'On our own', I didn't mean working alone, I meant like, Finding problems our self and fixing them, Implementing new features without a task or instruction, Etc.
@Sean How many people are a part of BRL-CAD excluding the participants?
@Sean How many people are a part of BRL-CAD excluding the participants?
depends who you count but we have about 2-3 dozen active contributors most years
core dev team on the C/C++ code is less than a dozen
Can I participate in GSoC before I start my degree courses?
you have to be enrolled, but classes do not have had to start -- see the FAQ about eligibility
Well, I'm eligible to participate in GCI this year (2018)
I love the feature that you could react with any emoji to a message
