Congratulations on your selection in Google Summer of Code 2022. We will soon create a timeline and plan for the project. Looking forward to working with you
@GregoryLi ditto, excited to be working with you too! You have a hard project, so please do post questions and share publicly so we can all benefit as you learn and make progress.

Hy! My name is Aqeel Ashraf. I am from pakistan. I applied in GSoc 2023. I am a C++ developer. I selected your organization because your organization works on c++ ,which maches my interest So I I want to contribute in your organization.I shall be very thankful to you if you make my chat with my mentor so it helped me in my project to make it effective so my chances of acceptance in GSoC 2023 becomes high. Again I shall be very thankful to you if you give me a chance to contribute
Hello @Aqeel Ashraf and welcome! The best way to improve your chances of acceptance are to ask smart questions, communicate here with others (whether they are mentors or not), and work on demonstrating your coding abilities by working on improving or fixing something in BRL-CAD, however simple. A good first step is to simply compile the code and run some of the tools to get familiarized.
Thanks sir but I want to talk to mentor and also plz give me a project so I contribute to it.I am little bit confused of my project. Also tell me who to write proposal because dear mam/ sir it's my first time in GsoC and I neither know what to do. I shall be very thankful to you if you help me and guide me further.
@Aqeel Ashraf That's not how this works. You're not given projects. You are talking to mentors. The mentors are listening and will engage when you do some work and ask smart questions. Please avoid honorifics as they are counterproductive. Read https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/how-it-works to better understand what you're supposed to do. You write a project proposal. We have published some ideas but those are just ideas. In addition to your project proposal, you need to familiarize yourself with the code (get it to compile, get it to run, do some tutorials). That will help you write a useful and educated project proposal. You have to do the work -- it is not given to you.
Also, read https://brlcad.zulipchat.com/#narrow/stream/104061-announce/topic/Google.20Summer.20of.20Code/near/341623867 if you've not yet as it has more tips for getting started too.
Hi! @Sean I have finished making a draft of my proposal, where can I send it over to you for suggestions and final changes

You're definitely on the right track and the proposal is looking complete on quick review. As for areas that could be improved, I wouldn't might seeing a section describing all the Python portions in Appleseed and/or affected by it, examples of what updating to Python 3 will look like in that specific context. What other related changes are anticipated, etc. Basically, a bit more detail would be good. Nice progress so far.
@Sean I have made the requested changes and updated the proposal on the website. Please review and let me know if any changes are required. Thank you!

Hi @AMAN SINGH, welcome at BRL-CAD. Did you already installed the software? The programs you should look at first are mged and archer.

You are trying to install where the application needs admin privileges to write. Either you can try to run as admin or you can install in other drives where there is no admin privilege.
@Himanshu Sekhar Nayak I completed the initial tutorial for MGED and found it impressive, although the user interface seems complex and outdated. I'm eager to explore Arbalest. Could you guide me on where to install it? Additionally, I've started learning Qt. While I have experience with MERN stack and .NET framework, Qt is a new territory for me.
Should I install linux, or will it work on Windows as well? @Daniel Rossberg

You will be fine with Qt once you get started and reading arbalest code. No need to worry for that.

You can go with windows.
Indeed, there is a good chance that it will work on Windows as well. However, how about finding out

I was thinking recently to give a try to run arbalest through WSL. But I have to install a gui that connects with WSL. Btw what I remembered in past, either I ran mged or arbalest I'm not sure what I ran during that time but it was working fine.
Hey @Daniel Rossberg @Himanshu Sekhar Nayak .. I wasn't able do much stuff from past 4 days because there was a fest going in my college and I will start working again from tommorow.

It's okay. Did you able to install brlcad from scratch?
yes.. I installed it in my pc from scratch
What should I do next? Should I try installing Arbalest?
Hello @Sean @Daniel Rossberg @Himanshu Sekhar Nayak ,
Sorry for being inactive for past few days, my dad had an accident so I was busy there.
I have drafted a proposal for the project. Can you please review it and give suggestions on how can I improve it. I am attaching a link to it.

It's good that you followed my template to write the proposal but you forgot to remove those things in your proposal that I had written in my proposal (e.g Why me? section). Instead you can take my template as a reference and write only those things that you are actually going to work.
You can add like why mouse select on primitive is not working currently in windows. Any solution to fix or any way that you found how to reproduce the behavior of why it is not working now.
And regarding the tool bar, you can at least compare with mged and archer and see what important feature is missing in arbalest and can point out in your proposal. One feature can be a good start.

I was looking for the fix, can you please tell me what all files should I look in to fix it in arbalest.sln?

About toolbar, I was thinking that all the features in create button can have a direct access from the toolbar plus some additional features like zooming in and out, angle and stuff can be set directly from there.
