As announced, BRL-CAD is once again participating in the Google Summer of Code. This year, participation expands to include more than students. Now anyone that is not new to open source is eligible to participate. Please see our ideas list at https://github.com/opencax/GSoC/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+label%3A%22Project%3A+BRL-CAD%22+is%3Aopen+label%3A%22GSoC+2022%22+ but also know that we're open to your ideas as well. Any continuation of a past GSoC project is likely also of interest, particularly if there's a UX and/or integration focus.
@Sean Did you mean "new to open source" rather than "not new"?
Yep, I meant new! Thanks for noticing.
Application period begins :tada:
Very much thanks @Daniel Rossberg and @Sean and BRL-CAD community for selecting me. I am very excited to unfold my summer into much more contribution and in learning from my mentors. I am very grateful that I am part of this community.
@Himanshu Sekhar Nayak Thank you for all your efforts to date and your efforts on your proposal. I'm quite excited to see what you're able to achieve under GSoC!
To anyone that didn't see the announcement, congratulation and thanks go out to everyone that applied to work with BRL-CAD under GSoC 2022! Our umbrella organization is working with 7 students in total and working specifically on BRL-CAD will be @Divyanshu Garg, @Himanshu Sekhar Nayak, and @GregoryLi. They will be working on the main website, new GUI infrastructure, and NURBS respectively.
GSoC 2022 participants, I'll be sending an e-mail with more info, but please check out the checklist ( https://opencax.github.io/gsoc_checklist.html ) for some action items to get started and set up. You'll want to add yourself to https://brlcad.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code/2022 and you can see previous years for examples. You're welcome to use the wiki for your dev log.
So, I had a question, where can I discuss the site-related stuff (The one proposed in GSOC)?
I have made a plan which I wanted to discuss before starting working on it

So, you want
Final Submission End Date: Monday, November 21
?
I can complete it in September but I don't want to rush. I am thinking for November. Is that okay?

22 Week Project is okay

:grimacing: I never saw this page. Btw we can work for 22 weeks?
Reload your GSoC dashboard.
:grinning:
I am happy now :grinning:
 I am glad I will work with you.
It still has a bug, the final evaluation end date should be November 28, but the save button was only available with a date before.

Now it's all good.
 This explains it! Your times are Indian, mine are German (or European), but the check for the end date seams to work with US/West Coast time only?
In US, it's 13.45 now and in India it's 23.16
So much time gap
India is 9 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Washington, DC, USA
:speechless:
That's a work day, and for the Google HQ it's additional 3 hours - half a day.
4 hrs diff to the west coast. 6hrs to Hawaii.
Not so big a problem when one works 16 hrs a day (haha… cries… j/k)
I saw Munich was recently listed as a top ten city for best work life balance

16 hrs/day :grimacing:
May be idk but someday I can meet BRL-CAD community in a physical meeting
If you really enjoy what you’re doing, is it really work? :)
Yeah that’s something we get to do from time to time.. but obviously not the past two years. Usually mentor summit or other conference.

@Sean I forwarded your message to our participant CRiSTiK24. He's wondering, because he got no mail from you since then. Did he miss anything?
He's not missed anything; I'm behind on comms. It was a schedule-packed holiday weekend.
Thanks @Sean , no problem, he just wondered.
@Sean Just wondering if you have sent the email ?
Thanks so much @Daniel Rossberg @sean. I learnt a lot from debug to code areas and improved a lot. There is much more to go. Before starting again, I want to say thanks for your valuable time and helping me.
Thanks BRL-CAD community :grinning:. Due to this I am able to crack an internship in the field of computer graphics and ML where I am going to research and build a differentiable renderer with support for camera, lights, scene geometry, and BRDFs.
