@Sasmit Biswas @Sagen Soren and everybody else who want to participate in GSoC 2019:
BRL-CAD acts as an umbrella organisation for multiple open source CAD projects. Please, have a look at https://opencax.github.io and https://github.com/opencax/GSoC/issues for a list of their project ideas. There are some Qt GUI project ideas among them, for example.
No matter with which CAD project you want to work, the first step would be to install the software and make yourself familiar with it. Next, you have to download the source code, compile, install, and run it. When you made up a list of your favorite project ideas, you should discuss it with the mentors.
The links to the corresponding BRL-CAD how-tos are https://brlcad.org/w/images/c/cf/Introduction_to_MGED.pdf (mged GUI user manual), https://brlcad.org/wiki/SVN (download source code), https://brlcad.org/wiki/Compiling (build from source code).
@Anwesha This should be sufficient to start with working on BRL-CAD - and I'm pretty sure you will learn something new doing so. Here is a how-to for the start: https://brlcad.zulipchat.com/#narrow/stream/111975-Google-Summer.20of.20Code/topic/getting.20started/near/160718304
Feel free to ask questions here if you get stuck.
This is for everyone who wants to be a part of the GSoC 19. Kindly refrain from asking questions on private chats. Feel free to ask on public streams irrespective of how big you feel the doubt is, as some of you might have some common questions, answers to which might be beneficial to all. Moreover there'll be a lot more mentors willing to share their thoughts on those questions. Cheers !
Welcome @Jagadish BC!
Making sense of the existing sources is a basic requirement for writing new code
Did you managed to compile the programs from source code?
I tried compiling in windows , faced done prob , now I'm trying to install Ubuntu in dual boot to compile
I have c make , and vsn and Eclipse but when I went though how to build in the wiki , it have gave error so I'm trying to figure out what happened
Ubuntu install was taking time do I'm going though the #step as I wanna work on the exporter

Hello everyone, will it be possible if someone can point me out to the getting started docs or quick start docs for opencax ?
Hello @Prabhat Singh, happy to help.
@Prabhat Singh You'll want to start by downloading and installing BRL-CAD. This should be easily discovered by you as it's all on the brlcad.org website wiki. There's even a specific "HACKING BRL-CAD" guide you can read that is a good starting point too.

Hi, sorry if I'm a bit late - would it be possible if I could help serve as like a secondary mentor if someone ends up choosing the Appleseed project? I'm not sure if I'll be able to dedicate the time myself this summer.
@Jeffrey Liu It's possible. Really hoping we can get more progress on the Appleseed effort, so any help is appreciated.
Yep, sorry I haven't been able to work on it much still... if I figure out what my plan is over the summer, could I apply to participate as a student? If not, I'll try my best to help on the side in the event that someone chooses to pick up Appleseed.

I'm not sure -- are you eligible to apply?
Actually I just checked; even though Ill be enrolled in a college next year, I'll still be 17 by registration and I graduate some time in June, so I guess I'm ineligible.
In any case, if someone decides to do Appleseed then I'll try to help as much as I can.

Ahh, I thought that might be the case.. Well, glad to hear you're still willing to help mentor. That's really great.
